Motor vehicle accidents: Teenage driver loses control of van

According to the California Highway Patrol, a van occupied by 10 teenagers crashed on a recent Friday afternoon. When teenagers lose their lives in senseless motor vehicle accidents that could have been prevented, it is particularly traumatic for surviving family members. In this case, it is alleged that an unlicensed 17-year-old girl was the driver who lost control of the vehicle, for reasons yet to be determined.

According to CHP, the accident happened around 3:45 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, rolled over and landed on its roof in the swamp waters of White Slough near Stockton. Reports indicate that most of the occupants were not strapped in by seat belts. They were between 13 and 17 years old.

Two of the passengers did not survive the crash and were already dead when CHP officers arrived at the scene. Several others suffered injuries, and they were taken to hospitals in the area, with injuries of varying severity. According to a preliminary crash report, no evidence of alcohol impairment was found.

When a driver's negligence causes injuries or death of passengers in motor vehicle accidents, the victims -- or surviving family members of those who lost their lives -- might have grounds to pursue claims for damage recovery through the California civil justice system. This is a complicated field of the law, and an experienced attorney might best navigate such lawsuits. A lawyer with experience in dealing with personal injury and wrongful death claims can be an invaluable asset in the corner of the plaintiffs.
