When people are sitting in traffic on a busy thoroughfare in California, chances are they will notice several large trucks in their immediate surroundings. Big rigs, because of their sheer size, can be significantly more dangerous if they become involved in a traffic accident. While a lot of focus is put on motorists being respectful to truck drivers and understanding how to drive around a truck, equally as important is a trucker's ability to responsibly operate a vehicle that is much larger than a majority of cars on the road.
In a recent accident that happened in Denver, Colorado, a trucker is being held behind bars as he awaits conviction for his role in a fiery accident that ultimately claimed the lives of four people. Witnesses recalled seeing the truck speeding over 85 mph and weaving dangerously in and out of traffic before it slammed into slowed traffic during rush hour. In addition to the four fatalities, multiple people were injured in an accident that involved several vehicles.
The trucker claims he was driving below the speed limit with the rest of the vehicles when his brakes failed. He reported trying to exit the road but being blocked by another truck before reentering the highway and crashing into the other vehicles. Because of the extensive damage to the trailer, it is unlikely that experts will be able to detect a mechanical malfunction. If convicted, the man could be facing decades in prison.
When people have been injured in an accident involving a commercial vehicle, an attorney may be a valuable partner for them to have. Legal professionals can help to identify areas where a case can be made in the victims' quest to be compensated for the trauma they have endured.
