What are some tips to protect children in your home?

Children are the most vulnerable people in society. They rely on you for everything. That includes keeping them safe. Whether you have children of your own or have other people's children in your home in California, there are some things you can do to keep them safe from serious injuries.

Nationwide explains that there are several items and areas of your home that could pose a substantial risk to children. These include large items, such as the stove, televisions and bookcases. Such large appliances and furniture all pose a tip over risk that could injure or kill a small child.

When it comes to the kitchen, you should make the area uninviting to kids. Do not hang towels on the stove handle, which could encourage them to pull on it. Do not put food items a child may want to climb to get around the stove or other applicances. Also, you should add anti-tip devices to dishwashers and stoves.

There are many risks in the living room. Make sure all large furniture that could tip over is secured to the wall. Keep cords well organized and out of the way so they do not pose a tripping hazard or entice children to pull on them. If you have a desk or other furniture that has drawers, put safety latches on them so they cannot be opened. Also, put away anything a child might try to climb to get.

Taking a little time to make your home safer can save a lot of trouble in the end. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
