Mr. Mayfield was raised in the small mountain community of Lake Arrowhead, California. He is the son of a veteran
railroad switchman
and local union chairman, and takes his
upbringing with him as a vigorous advocate for his clients.
From an early age, Mr. Mayfield was regularly exposed
to railroading politics, practices, and procedures.
Most importantly, he saw the negative impact of unscrupulous railroad claims agents and company officers on friends and family.
He enjoys the challenge of trial work
and the opportunity to represent clients from all walks
of life. His practice is focused on Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) accidents, passenger and commuter train accidents, and other catastrophic personal injury cases.
Following high school, he attained
a bachelors degree, magna cum laude, from Western Washington
University, Bellingham, Washington. He then worked
as a technology consultant and web
developer in Santa Barbara, California before attaining
his law degree at the University of California at Berkeley,
Boalt Hall School of Law. He has a certificate of specialization
in Law and Technology, and worked as an editor of the
Berkeley Law and Technology Journal and the Berkeley
Business Law Journal.
Following law school, Mr. Mayfield worked in the corporate securities, transactions, licensing, and technology practice at Stradling Yocca Carlson and Rauth, Newport Beach, California. He missed the challenge of trial practice, and the personal satisfaction of helping people in need, and returned to Hildebrand, McLeod & Nelson, LLP., where he actually began his legal career during his first year of law school.
Mr. Mayfield is a member of the California
Bar and is admitted to practice in California state
and federal courts. He is also a member of the Consumer
Attorneys of California (CAOC), the American Association for Justice (AAJ - formerly the American Trial Lawyers
Association), and the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers
Association (ACCTLA). Mr. Mayfield currently serves on the board of the ACCTLA.
When he's not working for his clients,
he enjoys traveling, exercise, the company of friends
and family, and the outdoors.
