Welcome to our FELA and Personal Injury Blog

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit the Hildebrand McLeod Nelson blog page. For more than 90 years, attorneys at our firm have been helping injured railroad workers and their families file for injury compensation under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA). But we are more than just a FELA law firm. We also represent people injured in any kind of accident caused by another party's negligence, including injuries from motor vehicle accidents, property owner negligence and defective and dangerous products. The goal of this blog is to educate and inform. We will keep the page updated with relevant stories about FELA, workers compensation and personal injury litigation, from a local and national perspective.

While many people have heard stories about the devastating injuries and loss of life that occurred when railroad workers were putting in the first railroads in this country, there are still numerous risks to working on railroads today. The heavy equipment and machinery is prone to malfunctioning possibly injuring the operator and any bystanders.

Everyone thinks about the medical bills associated with the injuries but many people overlook the cost of recovery. The recovery process includes the price of attending physical and occupational therapy, as well as the problem of trying to cover the wages that might be lost due to missed time. If the injuries are severe, people can be forced to miss an extended amount of time from work. Do people receive compensation for these lost wages? Are employees forced to take vacation time and sick days while recovering from a severe injury sustained on the job? These are obviously questions that must be answered.

We hope you will check in often

Almost every federal worker, particularly those who are working on the railroads, are protected by the Federal Employers' Liability Act. This is an act passed by the government that gives employees important rights regarding their compensation and recovery process from severe injuries. It is easy for people to get confused in the legal jargon of this legislation. That is the purpose of this blog -to sort out the confusion. Future posts will seek to educate readers regarding all facets of injuries and their rights. This has important implications for the fight for compensation.
