Mr. Mayfield is a skilled and experienced trial lawyer and is honored to be deemed a "Rising Star" and "SuperLawyer" by his peers. SuperLawyers is peer a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. The lawyers are ranked by point totals and those with the highest point totals are named to the Rising Stars list. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the list.

Mr. Mayfield has participated in numerous jury trials as lead trial counsel and co-counsel.  Most of those cases resulted in seven figure verdicts in favor of the firm’s clients.  In 2014, Mr. Mayfield was lead counsel in the case of Keating v. Amtrak in Sacramento County Superior Court and received a $5.6 million verdict for Mr. Keating against Amtrak.  Mr. Mayfield and his co-counsel were subsequently honored by the Sacramento Capital City Trial Lawyers Association as “Trial Lawyers of the Year” for 2014.

Mr. Mayfield was raised in the small mountain community of Running Springs, California in the San Bernardino Mountains. He is the son of a Union Pacific railroad switchman and former elected local union chairman for Local UTU 1813, and takes his upbringing with him as a vigorous advocate for his railroad and non-railroad clients.

From an early age, Mr. Mayfield was regularly exposed to railroading politics, practices, and procedures. Most importantly, he saw the negative impact of unscrupulous railroad claims agents and company managers on his personal friends and family. He enjoys the challenge of trial work and the opportunity to represent clients from all walks of life. His practice is focused on Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) accidents, passenger and commuter train accidents, and all other catastrophic personal injury cases. These include automobile accidents, trucking accidents, defective and unsafe products cases, occupational disease, and all other injury cases. Mr. Mayfield also represents whistleblowers and employees harassed and discriminated against by their employers.

Following graduation from Rim of the World High School, where he was a varsity wrestler and team captain, he attained a bachelors degree, magna cum laude, from Western Washington University, in Bellingham, Washington. He then worked as a technology consultant and software engineer in Santa Barbara, California for a variety of companies including a Department of Defense contractor, Tecolote Research, before attaining his law degree at the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. He has a certificate of specialization in Law and Technology, and worked as an editor of the Berkeley Law and Technology Journal and the Berkeley Business Law Journal. He studied intellectual property and completed his dissertation under the tutelage of the renowned Pamela Samuelson, Co-Director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology.

Following law school, Mr. Mayfield worked for Stradling Yocca Carlson and Rauth, in Newport Beach, California. While at Stradling he specialized in corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions, IPO's, financing transactions, and technology licensing. He enjoyed assisting businesses and executives, but missed the challenge of trial practice, and the personal satisfaction of helping injured people in need of justice, fairness, and compensation. He then returned to Hildebrand, McLeod & Nelson, where he began his legal career during his first year of law school.

Mr. Mayfield is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice in California state and federal courts. He has been admitted pro hac vice numerous states including Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas. He has also tried numerous cases to verdict in multiple states and throughout California. He is an active member of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC), the American Association for Justice (AAJ - formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association), the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (SFTLA), and serves on the board of the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association (ACCTLA). These organizations protect the interests of justice, the 7th Amendment right to jury trial, and the integrity of the judicial system throughout the United States.

Mr. Mayfield is also a member of ARLA, the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys. ARLA is a national professional association of attorneys representing injured railroad workers and their families. ARLA represents injured workers in their efforts to be compensated fairly for their injuries and promote rail safety and safe working conditions for all railroad employees and the public. ARLA upholds the 7th Amendment right to a jury trial for the injured worker and provides continuing legal education through seminars and other educational programs. ARLA also actively participates in protecting the rights of injured railroad workers and their families by participating in critical cases throughout the Courts of Appeal and United States Supreme Court.

When he's not working for his clients, Mr. Mayfield enjoys traveling, live music, exercise, the company of friends and family, and the outdoors.
